Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation: Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals according to specified menus, dietary requirements, and portion sizes. This includes chopping ingredients, following recipes, and using kitchen equipment effectively.
Food Safety and Hygiene: Adhere to strict food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal of food items. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas and equipment.
Menu Planning and Ordering: Collaborate with the kitchen supervisor or chef in planning menus and determining ingredient quantities for daily meals. Assist in placing food orders and maintaining inventory levels.
Special Dietary Needs: Accommodate special dietary needs and restrictions, such as low-salt, low-sugar, vegetarian, or allergen-free meals. Ensure that meals are prepared and served accordingly, following specific dietary guidelines.
Meal Service: Support the efficient and timely service of meals to residents. Assist with plating, portioning, and presentation of food. Maintain a friendly and respectful demeanor while interacting with residents during meal times.
Cleaning and Dishwashing: Assist in the cleaning and washing of kitchen utensils, dishes, and equipment. Ensure the kitchen and dining areas are clean, organized, and ready for the next meal service.
Inventory Management: Assist in monitoring and maintaining inventory levels of food and kitchen supplies. Report any shortages or expired items to the kitchen supervisor or designated personnel.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with other members of the kitchen staff and the care home team. Communicate any relevant information, such as changes in menus, dietary needs, or resident feedback, to ensure smooth operations.
Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper use of kitchen equipment, handling of hazardous substances, and emergency procedures. Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly.
Resident Engagement: Foster a positive and welcoming environment by engaging with residents during meal times, listening to their feedback and preferences, and providing excellent customer service.
Requirements:
Previous Experience: Prior experience in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred but not mandatory. Willingness to learn and follow instructions is essential.
Food Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with food safety and hygiene practices, including proper handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
Attention to Detail: Ability to follow recipes, portion sizes, and dietary guidelines accurately. Pay attention to detail when preparing and plating meals.
Physical Stamina: Possess the physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, communicate effectively, and maintain a positive and respectful attitude towards colleagues and residents.
Adaptability: Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and requirements. Willingness to assist with additional tasks or duties as needed.
